About Us

The Sleep & Human Health Institute is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) research corporation. Founded in 2000, the Sleep & Human Health Institute is a leader in performing cutting-edge research in the field of Sleep Medicine. All aspects of research are conducted on-site, including invention, data analysis and publication. Funding is provided by federal, state, private and philanthropic organizations interested in the important health implications of sleep on medical and psychological health.

Mission Statement

To conduct state-of-the-art sleep research that will categorize and establish the enormous impact of sleep disorders upon psychiatric illness and mental health specifically and human health in general, and to unequivocally demonstrate the remarkable healing influences of sleep medicine treatments upon psychiatric illness and other health conditions.

Background

SHHI is the outgrowth of 12 years of research conducted by Dr. Barry Krakow, the former medical director of the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Sleep Disorders and Sleep Research Centers.  In 2000, Dr. Krakow initiated SHHI as a private, non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) research facility dedicated to advancing the field of sleep medical research.
